The selection procedure consists of: (i) an email by February 7, 2017, to the address pci2016 _at_ cbpf _dot_ br containing a C.V., a letter of support from a CBPF professor as potential advisor, a research project of at most 5 pages and a declaration of residence outside Rio de Janeiro (if applicable), and (ii) a 30-minute presentation of the research project (which can be done by videoconference) some time to be arranged between March 13 and 17, 2017. For further details, you may see here.

Please see also the long-duration modality within the 'PCI - CBPF' option in Visiting Opportunities .

CNPq - PDJ and PDS

There are two CNPq funding modalities: 'Pós-Doutorado Júnior' (PDJ) and 'Pós-Doutorado Sênior' (PDS). PDJ is for candidates who finished the Ph.D. less than 7 years before the starting date of the postdoc and the duration of the postdoc is up to 12 months (extendable for another 12 months under certain conditions). PDS is for candidates who finished the Ph.D. at least 7 years before the starting date of the postdoc and the duration of the postdoc is up to 12 months, extendable for another 12 months. For both PDJ and PDS there are 3 calls a year, and the last deadline was August 19, 2016, for a postdoc starting some time during March-June 2017. Keep an eye out for any future openings. For further information (in Portuguese) you may see Secs.4 (PDJ) and 5 (PDS) in here, the financial amounts are given in here and a calendar is provided here. Please note that this funding is hard to get.

This program is a joint collaboration between the Brazilian agency CNPq and the The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). They offer Postdoctoral Fellowships to students/researchers currently in a developing country (other than Brazil) to do a postdoc in Brazil for a period between six and twelve months. The last deadline was August 24, 2015, with further information in here and here. The next call is still to be announced.

This program is a joint collaboration between the Brazilian agency CNPq and the Centro Latino-Americano de Física (CLAF). This program is open only to nationals of a Latin-American country (except Brazil) who wish to carry out postdoctoral research in Physics in a Brazilian institution. The deadline for the submission of an application for the year 2013 was the 25th of October (for a postdoc starting in March 2014), and so it is expected that the next call will have a deadline of around October 2014. For further information in Portuguese or Spanish you may see here. The chances of getting this funding are very good, so I would strongly encourage any interested Latin-American researcher to apply.

There are various types of postdoc funding from the agency FAPERJ, of the state of Rio de Janeiro. The duration of the funding is 1 year with potential extensions up to 5 years. There used to be two types of postdoc: a 'junior' one (PDR) and a 'senior' one (PDS). The PDR postdoc, however, is currently on hold until an agreement is reached between the funding agencies FAPERJ and Capes. The current deadline for a PDS postdoc is the 29th of October 2015 for a postdoc starting some time between February and April 2016. For further information in Portuguese you may see: Secs.IV and V of "Bolsas" in here for the various funding options depending on the seniority of the postdoc (PDR, PDR-10 and PDS), here specifically for the PDR-10 postdoc and here for a calendar of call deadlines. For further information in Portuguese you may see here.
Please note, however, that the advisor for these FAPERJ postdocs must be a researcher with a very high level of seniority (which is not my case).

This is a program of the International Center for Relativistic Astrophysics Network (ICRANet) and the topic of research should be among "theoretical and observational activities or data analysis in relativistic astrophysics and cosmology". The funding is for 2 years and the deadline for the application is September 1st of each year. For further information you may see here.

This is a very good option for researchers currently living outside Brazil. This new program is the result of the joint effort of two different Brazilian agencies, CAPES and CNPq. The fellowship is very prestigious, the funding is rather generous and the duration of the postdoc may be between 1 and 3 years. There are 3 calls a year and the the 2014 year deadlines were 7th of April 2014, 23rd of June 2014 and 15th of September 2014 corresponding to postdocs corresponding to postdocs starting some time during June-August 2014, September-November 2014 and December 2014-February 2015, respectively. You may find the amount of financial support and other details in here.
