Visiting Opportunities

Following you may find some funding possibilities for research collaboration visits (please also see opportunities in International Collaborations).

The 'Programa de Capacitação Institucional' (PCI) is funded by the Brazilian agency CNPq but the application is made through CBPF. This funding offers opportunities for researchers to visit CBPF under two modalities: short-duration and long duration. The short-duration modality (PCI-BEV) provides basic funding for visits of up to 1 month. There is usually a call every month and the deadline for applying is on the 1st day of the month prior to the visit. The long-duration modality (with two submodalities: PCI-D and PCI-E) are for longer visits: between 3 months and 3 years. Typically there is a call only once every few months. For further information (including funding amounts) in Portuguese of the long-duration modality you may see here.

CNPq - PV and PVE

The two CNPq funding modalities 'Pesquisador Visitante' (PV) and 'Special Visiting Researcher/Pesquisador Visitante Especial' (PVE) are intendend only for visitors to CBPF (or another Brazilian institution) who are 'internationally-recognized scientific leaders'. The duration of the visit of a PV is between 3 and 12 months (exceptionally extendable by another 12 months). In the PVE case, the objective is the establishment of an international cooperation and so the research visits are intended in the two directions. The duration of the visit of a PVE to CBPF is between 1 and 3 months (continuous or not) during either 2 or 3 years. There are usually 3 calls a year, with deadlines in January, May and September corresponding to visits starting some time during June-September, October-December and February-May (of the following year), respectively. For further information you may see 'Special Visiting Researcher' in here (in English) and Secs.3 (PV) and 13 (PVE) in here (in Portuguese).

This is a program of the International Center for Relativistic Astrophysics Network (ICRANet) and the topic of research should be in relativistic astrophysics and/or cosmology. There are options for visits in either direction Brazil<->abroad. The institution of the researcher abroad, however, should be a member of ICRANet.

In the case of a visit abroad by the researcher in Brazil, the researcher abroad should be a scientist in an ICRANet center in Europe. The duration of the visit is 5 months and applications are opened during the entire year.

In the case of a visit to Brazil by the researcher abroad, this researcher should be a senior scientist in a ICRANet center in Asia, Europe or the U.S.A. The visits are for up to 3 years and each year up to 3 months. The applications are open during the entire year.

This funding is from the agency FAPERJ, of the state of Rio de Janeiro. This funding is for visits to CBPF (or another institution in the state of Rio de Janeiro) of up to 90 days. For further information in Portuguese you may see Sec.VI of "Auxilios" (also Sec. V of "Bolsas" for visits up to 1 year) in here for the funding and in here for a calendar of call deadlines. Please note that this funding is very hard to get.
